  • OVERVIEW

The project consisted of three new build structures, one single storey administration block, one single storey fitness/gymnasium block and a large clear span sports hall. All buildings were constructed using shallow foundations, steelwork framing and non load-bearing masonry infill wall panels for cladding.

The administration block included the building of a tall feature entrance area and new offices for the headmaster/head mistress and various support staff. The fitness area structural solution required the introduction of steelwork framing systems in order to create large clear spans of around fifteen metres with minimal internal columns. In addition the brief required a high single storey height of around four metres.

  • Tubular steel roof trusses spanning a distance of approximately twelve metres with only a one-metre rise were designed as the basis of the structural solution for the fitness/gymnasium block. Small column sections were also used at close centres to support the trusses and restrain the external masonry walls.

All foundations were either mass concrete or reinforced strip foundations.
